To ensure many happy (VAT) returns, we can help businesses recover VAT. Our main activity is in Switzerland, but we have a network of local agents in other jurisdictions including the UK, through which we can help you recover VAT across Europe.

Recovering VAT in Switzerland

Foreign companies doing business in Switzerland are often unaware that they can recover much of the VAT they pay in Switzerland. If you incur more than CHF 8000 of costs subject to VAT in Switzerland a year, it is probably worth claiming back the VAT rather than giving a gift to the Swiss government! Rosetrust can help you get your money back.

This is how it works

A foreign company which has no VATable turnover and is not registered for VAT purposes in Switzerland (but is registered elsewhere) can reclaim Swiss VAT via a Swiss VAT representative. Swiss VAT on hotels, conferences, transportation, petrol, diesel, exhibitions, marketing and consulting costs, car rental, lawyers and telecoms is fully reclaimable, and is partially reclaimable on other travel and meal costs. The claimant must provide a certificate of VAT registration in a foreign country. The returns are filed by calendar year (to June 30) and the refunds paid into the Swiss representative’s bank account, to be forwarded immediately to the client.

This is what we need

We will be happy to assist you with such reclaims. To do so we need:

  • A signed proxy authorising Rosetrust AG to deal on your behalf
  • A signed application for refund
  • Original invoices and proof of payment
  • A certificate in German/English of VAT registration in a foreign country
  • Completion of our due diligence form
  • Details of the account to which your refund should be sent

We make it easy for you

Rosetrust will provide you with all the forms (we promise they are easy to complete), and forward all completed documents to the VAT authorities in Berne. We already have an account with UBS dedicated to VAT repayments and an efficient system in place to ensure you receive timely payment of your refund.

What we charge

Our charge for this work is 15% on the refunded amount, with a minimum fee of CHF 200 per claim provided that all documents are complete and correct when we receive them. We reserve the right to charge an additional handling fee if material additional administration is required. Our charges are deducted from the payment to you.
